Biography
Born and educated in Hong Kong, Bernie Lee developed a keen interest in photography from high school onwards. This led to his intensive study of Art and Design at the University of Hong Kong. Bernie's strong photography skills combined with his fine-arts education earned him an apprenticeship with a group of renowned commercial photographers in Hong Kong. As a result, he was appointed the chief photographer for the Asia Weekly, one of Hong Kong's leading magazines. Because of this success, Bernie was later began working as a free-lance commercial photographer and graphic designer.
In 1976, Bernie relocated to Vancouver, Canada where he worked in various photography houses including Colorific and Commercial Illustrators. This reputable custom color lab and production firm was responsible for colour mural enlargement and commercial photo production. Gaining new skills in this position, Bernie took on an entrepreneurial role and set up the first one-hour photo chain in Vancouver and Victoria.
Bernie has exhibited widely both in Canada and abroad. His accomplishments include an innovative phototography exhibition at The Hong Kong Exhibition Hall. "Life and Soul", a semi-abstract series, featured a water and ink technique in darkroom processing. Later, Bernie combined his fine-art skills with newfouond digital imaging techniques to create the inspirational series, "Wonderful Figure". Additional exhibitions include "Digital Art" at the Canadian Comparative Fine Art Centre in July 2005, “ArtShots” at the Tsawwassen Art Centre in November 2005, “Digital Fine Art Show” at the Chinese Cultural Centre Museum in January 2006, “Woman” at the Ferry Building Gallery in March 2006, "Tour show in China" at the Liuzhou Museum and DongGuan Museum in October 2007, and "Phantasm" at Basic Inquiry Gallery in January 2008.
