Life Drawing, Photography, and Digital Art

I hadn't drawn from life until I discovered Basic Inquiry (Vancouver Life Drawing Society) in 2001. The three-hour sessions allow for a deep concentration and set the mind free. The joy of drawing a live model is incredible when the lines come alive on the page before you. Life drawing provides me with both a joyful meditation practice and a training in eye-hand coordination.

I have been working in the commercial photo industry for decades creating images for clients. Now I have the liberty to choose what I like to shoot. I have been very fortunate to encounter so many beautiful figurative models who voluntarily posed for me. They always assist me in the creation of new concepts. Photography helps me to capture ideas and create images.

Since the advent of digital imaging, I have felt that graphic and image editing software should not be limited to commercial applications. It also has a place in the fine arts. This new medium offers the artist yet another method of self-expression. Digital art allows me to synthesize fine art and photography to create a new form of conceptual art that intrigues the viewer.
